Partnership with Parents

No technology can substitute the gentle encouragement and nurturing care that parents provide for their infants. At Baptist Health, we collaborate closely with parents to create tailored care plans for their children, maintaining a compassionate approach across all our facilities. As infants grow stronger, the involvement of parents increases. Initially, parents may simply sit beside their babies and offer gentle touches, but as time progresses, they can engage in skin-to-skin contact, feed them with a bottle or breastfeed, change diapers, and bathe their babies, depending on the infant's development.

We provide extended visiting hours, allowing access to your baby for 21 hours each day, with closures only during shift changes. Grandparents and other visitors authorized by parents are also welcome in the NICU, while siblings can visit after undergoing illness screenings. Please note that during flu season, children are not permitted to visit.

Preparing for Home

When the milestone moment arrives and your baby is ready to go home, our team will partner with you to ensure all new parents have the essential information needed to feel prepared to care for their little one at home. This training includes infant CPR, car seat guidance, and contact information for all the new parent services available at our facilities. Our NICUs also provide parents with an option to stay overnight with their baby prior to them going home, allowing parents to feel more prepared. Nurses are readily available nearby to address any questions, ensuring that parents feel confident caring for their babies independently once they return home.
