Baptist Medical Center South Emergency Department Expansion
What To Know:
Baptist Medical Center South is the largest healthcare facility in Central Alabama and home to the only Trauma Center in the area. In 2024, our Emergency Department treated nearly 57,000 patients from a 17-county service area. As patient volumes and acuity level only continued to grow, we knew we needed to expand our Emergency Department.
That $14 million expansion is now complete---adding 11,205 square feet, increasing our treatment capacity from 53 to 83 rooms, with the potential to accommodate up to 98 treatment areas. These new Emergency Department Treatment Areas are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that can be lifesaving in critical moments.
As operations return to normal following the completion of the Emergency Department expansion, our focus remains on providing a smooth and efficient experience for every patient and visitor. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this construction project as we worked to enhance our ability to serve the community.
Our Emergency Department may look different, but our commitment to expert, compassionate care remains the same. Baptist Health continues to provide the trusted, high-quality care our community relies on – now in space built for what’s next.
Where To Go:
Patients and visitors arriving at the Emergency Department by private vehicle should enter from the service road located in front of the hospital. This entrance has been reopened in coordination with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), and clear signage is in place to assist with navigation.
Please look for highly visible directional signage throughout the campus to help guide you to the appropriate parking areas and destinations.
Upon arrival, patients and visitors will undergo a brief security screening, including a metal detector, followed by badge pass registration and the standard patient check-in process.
*Ambulance entrances have not changed as a result of the expansion.
