PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency

PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency

The PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Baptist Medical Center South is designed to build upon the foundations of PGY-1 training and prepare residents for a career in critical care pharmacy practice. Residents will have the opportunity to train alongside members of our experienced, decentralized clinical pharmacy team to glean vital skills and experience acquired from cumulative decades of practice. The residency year is designed to challenge residents to grow as practitioners and leaders in healthcare, providing the environment necessary for realizing potential. The PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at BMCS is currently in pre-candidate status with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Baptist Medical Center South is a 492-bed, not-for-profit, faith-based, acute care regional referral center. Our facility in Montgomery, AL serves our community and central Alabama as a Level II Trauma Center, Joint Commission Accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Level III Nursery/NICU. The facility provides specialized care for a variety of disease states and features Cardiac, Cardiovascular, Medical, Neurological, and Surgical critical care units. Additionally, BMCS provides continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) services and is one of only two (2) ECMO-capable sites in the state.

The core of the residency curriculum provides exposure to our specialized critical care units as well as our 94-bed emergency department. Along with these required experiences, residents will have the opportunity to tailor their year with elective experiences in neonatal critical care, antimicrobial stewardship, nutrition services, transitions of care, and more. With multiple pharmacy students and PGY-1 residents at our facility, PGY-2 residents will also have the opportunity to grow as preceptors and learn the skills necessary to pass on their own expertise throughout their career. The residency team at BMCS is more than willing to design experiences, where able, to meet the growth demands of our residents.
