Sara E. Nelson, DO

Dr. Sara Nelson received her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama and completed her General Surgery Residency at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Troy University in Troy, Alabama.

Board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Nelson’s clinical interests and procedures include Robotic General Surgery and Minimally Invasive Procedures, Endoscopy, Endocrine, Biliary Disease, Colorectal, Foregut (upper GI), Hernia Repair and Breast Surgeries.

A proud member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and American Society of Breast Surgeons, she has received many awards. She has been named the Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital Chief Resident, Brookwood Surgery Research Winner and received the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Global Health Service Award.

Dr. Nelson enjoys participating in medical mission trips, spending time traveling with family, running, soccer, and Alabama Football. Her favorite quote comes from American author and businessman, Napolean Hill, “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.”
