Montgomery Breast Center recommends that every woman aged 40 and over have an annual screening mammogram, as well as a clinical breast exam (CBE). The surest way to treat breast cancer is to catch it in its early stages - the earlier, the better - so it's better not to wait every other year when the months in between could make all the difference. While a breast self-exam (BSE) is useful, it's not enough. Mammography and a CBE by a health professional are much more sensitive in detecting small cancers.
