Multiples - not an uncommon occurrence
According to the March of Dimes there is a rising number of multipl e gestations, a pregnancy in which a woman is carrying two or more babies (fetuses). If you are carrying more than one baby, you are not alone. About 3 percent of babies born in the U.S. today are born in sets of two, three or more. Women 30 and over are more likely to conceive multiples. Conceiving twins is also greater among women with a personal or family history of fraternal (non-identical) twins. Obese women, women who have had multiple pregnancies, as well as women receiving infertility treatments also have a higher chance of conceiving multiples.
If you are expecting multiples, listen to your physician’s advice. You may need to visit your doctor more frequently than a woman who is expecting one child.
