Exercise

How much exercise is good during pregnancy? Doctors generally agree that if you are having a normal pregnancy, you can probably continue with your regular exercise regime or with most sports you have participated in on a regular basis. If you enjoy a more vigorous sport, you should be able to continue for a time, but it is recommended that you not begin a new sport or strenuous exercise regime after you are pregnant. Your body will be undergoing many changes during the coming months. Your weight will be increasing and your changing shape will affect your balance, posture and speed. The types of sports you participate in will subsequently be affected. Your back will be working harder as your baby grows. The added weight of your baby will result in an increased tilt in your pelvic bone. Your back will assume a different curve and your center of gravity will change. All of this will affect your activity. You should probably avoid activities that put an extra strain on your back and abdomen. Remember to ask your doctor about any conditions that may call for a reduction in your activity. If you enjoy walking, this is an excellent way to help you feel refreshed and less tired. Include a 10-minute walk in your daily routine! Some mother-to-be may not feel much like exercising in the early portion of their pregnancies, as they may feel fatigued and nauseated at times. But keep in mind that exercise will improve your muscle tone and help your circulation and breathing – and will make you feel good!
