| 35 and Thinking About Having a Baby Many believe that having a baby after 35 is not safe, but most healthy women ages 35 to 40 have healthy pregnancies and babies. There are some risk factors for women around this age including fertility problems, high blood pressure, low birth weight and diabetes. However all women can experience these risk factors. This is why it is important to contact your health care physician when thinking about having a baby. Prenatal care is also very important for women 35 or older because of these risks. In addition, a decrease in fertility may occur because with age women became less fertile. So don’t be discouraged if it takes some time to become pregnant. With any woman thinking about having a baby there are healthy habits that should be adopted such as: Eat healthy food (uncooked vegetable, fruit, grain and calcium) Exercise (use health care guidance) Take vitamins as directed by a doctor (consider Folic Acid) Stop alcohol or illegal drug use Get eight hours of sleep Read and research about pregnancy Always speak with your doctor, especially women 35 and older, if you are thinking about becoming pregnant. Your doctor can help prepare for a healthy pregnancy. |
