Multi Slice CT Scanner

Can you hold your breathe for three seconds? That's all it takes to scan the entire body using our new multi slice CT scanner. Multi slice technology routinely gives our board certified radiologists excellent images for better clarity and detail, thus providing superior clinical results. Plus, it requires no sedation making this scanner great for patients of all ages, especially children.

Baptist Medical Center South is home to one of six CT scanners in the country that combines multiple diagnostic tools in one unit. CT scans are ordered by a physician to evaluate organs, veins, arteries or the abdominal cavity.

This advanced technology:

  • Aids patients experiencing chest pain by performing heart, artery and vein angiograms (dye injections to determine blockages, plaque and blood flow restrictions) without the insertion of a sheath.

  • Provides quicker heart attack diagnosis allowing for immediate treatment.

  • Identifies precise cancer locations permitting the delivery of treatment to those sites only, instead of widespread treatment.

  • Performs a scan of the lungs and builds a 3D model allowing a board certified radiologist to pinpoint blood clots and cancers in lung.

Performs a minimally invasive colon exam that inserts air into the colon, takes pictures in approximately two seconds, then develops a computer-generated 3D model so a board-certified radiologist can diagnose any problems that may exist. This is called CT virtual colonoscopy. (pictured left)
