School of Radiologic Technology
Baptist Medical Center South offers a rewarding career opportunity in medical imaging. Registered radiographers enjoy a competitive salary and the opportunity to help others by producing radiographs (X-rays) of the human anatomy to permit the diagnosis of injury and disease. Radiologic technologists are well-educated professionals who understand radiation and know how to produce quality diagnostic medical images safely. Such advanced imaging as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), angiography and cardiac catheterization are also performed by radiologic technologists. Common work settings include hospital and medical center radiology departments, doctor's offices, outpatient clinics, mobile X-ray companies and industry.
The School of Radiologic Technology is a 22 month program leading to a certificate in diagnostic radiography. Graduates of the fully accredited program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Application deadline is June 10th of each year with classes beginning in the fall.
Minimum requirements for admission include:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or possess a currently approved student visa.
- High school graduate with at least a 2.0 GPA or GED with a minimum score of 500 on
the Language Arts, Reading and Mathematics sections and a minimum score of 500 on the Battery Average.
- 18 years of age by the end of the first year (December 31) enrolled
- Completion of the following prerequisite courses from an accredited college or university (total of 15 semester hours) required:
intermediate college algebra or higher (3 semester hours); English composition (3 semester hours); public speaking or speech (3 semester hours); either general biology, chemistry, physics, physical science, or human anatomy & physiology (3 semester hours); and basic microcomputing or introduction to computer science (3 semester hours)
