Meadhaven Behavioral Health

Meadhaven, located on the campus of Baptist Medical Center South, offers a 24-hour, short-term, intensive psychiatric care for adults.

Meadhaven Outpatient Center, located in the Normandie Building behind Baptist Medical Center South, offers two distinct outpatient services for adults: a psychiatric partial hospitalization program and an addictive disease program.

Psychiatric Inpatient Program
One in five Americans ages 18 and older suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. If not properly diagnosed and treated a psychiatric illness can be life-threatening.

The Meadhaven Psychiatric Inpatient Program deals with psychiatric problems that can affect men and women at any stage of their lives. That is why 24-hour admission is available to individuals 19 or older seeking assistance. Patients are given a comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessment. An experienced psychiatrist leads the patient’s multidisciplinary treatment team that includes therapists, social workers and psychiatric nurses. The program provides emotional, medical and psychiatric support through individual, group, recreational and physical therapies. This structured plan of therapy gives patients the opportunities to improve their social, physical and mental skills.

Problems facing patients can also have an affect on their families. At Meadhaven, the patient’s family is an important part of treatment, and is included in family conferences and discharge planning.

Calls are welcome 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Each call is handled with strict confidence. For more information, please call (334) 286-3116.

Addictive Disease Outpatient Program
The goal of Meadhaven Addictive Disease Outpatient Program is to provide effective therapy to men and women 19 years or older wishing to recover from a chemical dependency. The program is tailored to the particular plans, goals and needs of the patient in order to help them maintain normal productive lives free from alcohol and drugs.

Each treatment is based on four concepts. First that alcohol/drug addiction is a primary, progressive and life-long disease. Second, as a disease, alcohol/drug addiction is a condition that requires treatment. Third, both the alcoholic/addict and family members suffer physically, mentally and spiritually. Lastly, alcoholism/addiction is a family disease and recovery must be a family process.

The patient’s psychiatrist oversees the treatment process in conjunction with certified alcohol and drug counselors, as well as other treatment specialists.

Detoxification, if necessary, is available on a designated medical unit at Baptist Medical Center South prior to admission to the outpatient program.

Calls are welcome from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each call is handled with strict confidence. For more information, please call (334) 286-3535. In case of an emergency after hours, contact (334) 286-3116.

Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program
Depression, anxiety, stress are just a few of the emotional problems many people experience, but they may not require 24-hour hospital care. Partial hospitalization can help those who have been involved in outpatient counseling, but have experienced little improvement in symptoms. It can also benefit those who have recently completed inpatient hospitalization, but are still in need of continuing support, as well as daily counseling services.

The Partial Hospitalization Program rebuilds emotional foundations for patients and helps guide them toward more fulfilling lives. A team that consists of a psychiatrist, therapist and a nurse, all work together to create an individualized treatment program for the patient.

Program hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
