Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service is located on the campus of Baptist Medical Center South. This service opened in July, 1983 and has served hundreds of patients who have chronic lung disease: emphysema, asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and other diseases that cause chronic shortness of breath and limits their participation in even the simplest of daily tasks.

Montgomery Pulmonary Consultants medically directs each individualized plan of care with the pulmonary rehabilitation coordinator. Through therapeutic exercise, conditioning and activities including breathing retraining, bronchial hygiene and aerosol medications, patients are taught to care for themselves at an optimal level both at home and work. Monitoring of the patient’s pulmonary function during rehabilitation provides on going assessment to safely move the patient towards achieving the set goals. In addition, pulmonary rehab also provides smoking cessation classes and support to help kick the habit and addiction to tobacco.
