Orthopaedics/Urology Staff

The orthopaedics/urology staff consists of nurses, orthopedic technicians, patient care technicians (PCTs) and unit clerks who provide care to patients who need acute orthopedic care, i.e. those who have undergone total joint replacements, are suffering from fractured hips or bones, or require skeletal traction to keep bones in place.

Orthopaedic technicians are on staff especially to help patients get to and from their beds and chairs, and to the bathroom. The “ortho techs” are also trained as PCTs, along with other PCTs, who assist the nurses with non-sterile dressings, catheterizations, vital signs, baths and other functions.

Orthopaedics, however, is only half of the job on Four North. The nurses are also specially trained in taking care of urology patients, including those who are here for prostate surgery, bladder tacking, bladder removal, kidney stones and other urological conditions.

Baptist Medical Center South has been named for the second year in a row as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country for quality orthopaedic care. Congratulations to the orthopaedic staff and physicians!
