The Montgomery Surgical Center became the first freestanding surgery center licensed in the state of Alabama. Founded in 1984 by a group of local physicians, the surgical center began operations at an average of 250 patients per month.

Since that time, the facility has expanded in physical appearance, as well as caseload size (currently averaging 625 patients per month). The center now houses six pre-operative bays, six operating rooms, two Endoscopy rooms, one mammotest suite, 14 recovery bays, five overnight patient rooms, a business office and waiting areas. Extended stay has allowed the center to perform more advanced procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and ACL repair. Gastroenterology and pain management services are also offered in addition to general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, ENT, plastic surgery, oral surgery, ophthalmology, shoulder arthroscopy, operative laparoscopy and laser surgery.
