Project LifeSaver helps save lives!

On Saturday, February 18, 2006, Baptist Health and other local organizations are giving area residents a free chance to learn what to do in a life-threatening emergency. Project LifeSaver is designed to give a basic orientation to CPR and the Chain of Survival. Although this course does not offer CPR certification, participants do learn to perform CPR as well as what to do to improve the chance of survival for victims with life-threatening emergencies.

Project LifeSaver offers four two-hour CPR courses throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Montgomery Cardiovascular Institute (MCI) auditorium on the Baptist Medical Center South campus, 2119 E. South Blvd. Two courses focus on adult CPR and two focus on infant/child CPR. The first hour of each class includes a lecture/video on CPR instruction, followed by an hour of hands-on training by CPR instructors certified by the American Heart Association (AHA). The event is a joint effort between Baptist Health, Southeast Alabama EMS, Montgomery Fire Department and Prattville Fire Department.

Heart disease is the number one killer of adults in the United States; more than 650,000 people die from it each year. Startlingly enough, approximately 60 to 70 percent of those deaths occur outside the hospital. Cardiac arrest, often a result of a heart attack, is the leading cause of sudden, unexpected death--when the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is critical. This is why it is so important for people to learn CPR and the Chain of Survival.

Class sizes are limited so registration is necessary. For more information and to pre-register call (334) 286-2718 or click here to register on-line.
