“Let’s Pretend Hospital”

prepares first graders

“Let’s Pretend Hospital” is a simulated hospital designed to help acquaint children with hospitals. For twenty years, Baptist Health volunteers have sponsored the much-anticipated and educational event.

This year's "Let's Pretend Hospital" is March 7-11 at Vaughn Park Church of Christ on Perry Hill Road. The students are guided on a tour through a simulated hospital with the different areas, procedures and equipment explained to them along the way. They see how someone is admitted to the hospital, visit the laboratory and radiology departments as well as the operating room, emergency room and newborn nursery. The children can ask questions about what they see or relay their own hospital experiences. Additionally, emergency personnel  provide the pupils a chance to see the inside of an ambulance, courtesy of CARE Ambulance.

“We want the first hospital experience for children to be one that will take away any fears and leave them with good memories,” said Camilla Wible, System Director for Senior Services. “‘Let’s Pretend Hospital’ is the first time most of these children are exposed to a hospital. It presents an opportunity for 2,500 first graders to have a good experience and not be afraid should they or their family need medical attention.”
