Montgomery Family Medicine Residency

The Montgomery Family Medicine Residency Program offers patient's high-quality primary healthcare services and the educational environment for residents to become successful physicians. The residency program offers a comprehensive, accredited, three-year curriculum to resident physicians.

Baptist Health sponsors this academic program. Six residents are accepted into the program each year. Those accepted into the program gain experience in general surgery, orthopedic surgery and urology, along with training in areas such as critical care medicine, cardiology, neurology, OB/GYN, dermatology, gastroenterology and other sub-specialties. There is an OB/GYN Fellowship available after successfully completing the three-year program.

The residents are trained by experienced, board-certified faculty physicians. Resident physicians provide supervised medical care to their established patient clientele. Patients are seen by appointment in a typical private practice setting. Residents are under the supervision of the residency faculty physicians and community attending physicians.
Patients from Montgomery and surrounding areas benefit from the program with resident physicians performing rotations in areas outside Montgomery metro area.

The residency faculty consists of nine board-certified family physicians including, Tom Kincer, M.D., director; and faculty members, Jack Mahurin, D.O., Melissa Thompson, M.D., Harold Cox, M.D., Irina Licea, M.D., Franklin Scott, M.D., Michele Connor, M.D., Karl Kirkland, Ph.D., and Lori Hornsby, Pharm.D. The program received support from Montgomery area physicians who serve as the clinical faculty.

The Primary Care Center on Narrow Lane Road provides residents and patients with new technology and accommodations needed for a successful primary care facility. A state-of-art library with internet access and audio-visual equipment is available to enhance the learning experience of the resident physicians. X-ray and laboratory facilities, along with an in-house insurance and business office, make the facility self-sufficient and more convenient for the patient.

With the goal of enhancing the medical services for the tri-county area, the residency program pledges a commitment to the community and its need for primary medical care.
