Birdies for Babies
The Holloway Credit Solutions Birdies for Babies Golf Tournament was hosted April 22, 2008 at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club by the Baptist Health Care Foundation, a not-for-profit organization and the philanthropic arm of Baptist Health.
The 13th annual tournament raised more than $140,000 for Baptist Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), located at Baptist Medical Center South and Baptist Medical Center East. More than 750 babies are admitted to the NICUs annually.
These programs are vital to helping premature and medically challenged babies embark on a healthy life. The newborns that arrive in the NICU are fighting to live. From donations made through The Birdies for Babies Golf Tournament, the Foundation is able to provide the NICUs with up-to-date equipment.
To date the tournament has raised more than $1.2 million to support the neonatal intensive care units at Baptist Health. With the support of numerous businesses and individuals, the tournament has become one of the premier golf events in the Montgomery area and has allowed the Baptist Health Care Foundation to award a $500,000 grant to Baptist Medical Center East for the renovations of their NICU and a $440,000 grant to Baptist Medical Center South for the purchase of new, high-tech beds. The most recent grants of $375,000 include seven new beds, 14 new monitors and a new diode laser for premature retinopathy procedures.
