Signs of stroke
According to the American Stroke Association, fewer than 5 percent of stroke victims get to the hospital in time to benefit from one of the best stroke treatments, the clot-busting drug t-PA, which must be administered within three hours of the beginning of a stroke.
If you have one or more of these symptoms, call 9-1-1 and get to the hospital immediately. Every minute counts. Here are some warning signs.
- sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech
- sudden severe headache with no known cause
- sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- sudden difficulty walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination
