Baptist Medical Center South
Glenn E. Vickrey School of
Echocardiograph
Echocardiography is a dynamic profession that has grown significantly during the past 20 years. With rapidly developing new technologies and increased use of echocardiography procedures, growth is projected to continue in the future with employment opportunities for qualified echocardiographers nationwide.
Echocardiographers can choose to work in clinics, hospitals, private practice physician offices, public health facilities, laboratories and other medical settings performing examinations in their areas of specialization. Career advancement opportunities exist in education, administration, research and in commercial companies as education/application specialists, sales representatives, technical advisors, etc.
The Baptist Medical Center South Glenn E. Vickrey School of Echocardiography offers a 6-month echocardiography program which provides quality education for graduates who are ARDMS certified. The program is currently in the accreditation process by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Application deadline is July 1 of each year for the October class and April 1 for the July class.
The curriculum includes didactic and clinical training in physics and instrumentation, transthoracic, transesophageal, contrast, and stress echocardiography. Our rigorous and well-rounded program will give you the technical, clinical and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in this challenging field. Graduates of the program are eligible for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
The program is named for local businessman Glenn E. Vickrey. For many years, Mrs. Vickrey desired to create a trust to honor the memory of her husband. The couple's grandsons, Ray and Craig Wilson, were the inspiration for the decision to select the Baptist Health School of Diagnostic Ultrasound as the main benefactor of the trust. Both graduated from Pensacola Junior College and Florida Institute of Ultrasound and have careers in this field.
