Glenn E. Vickrey School of
Diagnostic Ultrasound

Sonography is a dynamic profession that has grown significantly during the past 20 years. With rapidly developing new technologies and increased use of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, growth is projected to continue in the future with employment opportunities for qualified sonographers nationwide.

Sonographers and vascular technologists can choose to work in clinics, hospitals, private practice physician offices, public health facilities, laboratories and other medical settings performing examinations in their areas of specialization. Career advancement opportunities exist in education, administration, research and in commercial companies as education/application specialists, sales representatives, technical advisors, etc.

The Baptist Medical Center South Glenn E. Vickrey School of Diagnostic Ultrasound offers 12-month general ultrasound program which provides quality education for graduates of an accredited six-month allied health education program that is patient-care related. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Application deadline is July 1 of each year with classes beginning the first week of October.

The curriculum includes didactic and clinical training in abdominal sonography, obstetrics and gynecological studies, small parts, and ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Our rigorous and well-rounded program will give you the technical, clinical and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in this challenging field. Graduates of the program are eligible for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

The program is named for local businessman Glenn E. Vickrey. For many years, Mrs. Vickrey desired to create a trust to honor the memory of her husband. The couple's grandsons, Ray and Craig Wilson, were the inspiration for the decision to select the Baptist Health School of Diagnostic Ultrasound as the main benefactor of the trust. Both graduated from Pensacola Junior College and Florida Institute of Ultrasound and have careers in this field.
